Description
2 Postdoctoral positions
available at the Department of Anatomy, Institute of Basic MedicalSciences, University of Oslo.
At the Department of Anatomy, 2 postdoctoral positions within immunologyand auto-immune disease are available for 3 years from May 1st 2008. Thepositions will be attached to the research projects “Oil-inducedarthritis/Receptors controlling the innate immune system” and arefinanced through grants from the Norwegian Research Council.
The positions are administered by the Faculty of Medicine and areattached to the Institute of Basic Medical Sciences in the Department ofAnatomy. The Institute of Basic Medical Sciences consists of departmentsand units that pursue research and education within basic medicalscience. The institute has approximately 300 employees and is located inthe Domus Medica, Sognsvannsveien 9, Oslo. More information about theinstitute can be found here: http://www.med.uio.no/imb/english/
The postdoctoral positions are part of a larger project concerned withthe identification of mechanisms that regulate inflammatory/autoimmunedisease. The work involves studies of novel receptors expressedprimarily by myeloid cells. Several aspects of receptor biology will beinvestigated, including signal transduction, ligand identification, receptor expression and receptor function. In addition to thesemolecular studies, the project will also investigate the role of thesereceptors in autoimmune disease, using both animal models and patientmaterial. The project involves cell work with antigen-presenting cellsand lymphocytes, together with general molecular biological andimmunological methods. It is therefore desirable that the candidate hasrelevant experience within these areas.
In addition to evaluation of the applicants formal qualifications, aninterview may be arranged where personality traits may be taken into account.
A postdoctoral position is a training position and is normally awardedfor 3 years. The requirement for award of a postdoctoral position is thesuccessful completion of a PhD program. Candidates who have deliveredtheir PhD thesis for evaluation may also apply, but can not be employedbefore award of the degree.
