Description
The lab of veterinary bacteriology of the faculty of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Calgary (UCVM) is looking for a postdoc with experience in molecular microbiology. A preference will be given to the candidates with experience in proteomics, mycobacteriology or Mycobacterium paratuberculosi research. The position is available immediately but for the right candidate we can wait.
Most of the research in the lab is currently focused on identifying and characterizing bacterial surface exposed proteins and adhesins of Mycobacterium avium subsp. paratuberculosis (Map), the causing agent of chronic granulomatous enteritis or Johne’s disease or paratb in ruminants. Map is also associated with Crohn’s disease in humans. We will evaluate the potential of the discovered proteins in diagnostics and control measures against Johne’s disease.
If you are interested in joining this lab to work on a project exploring and characterizing the mycobacterial cell wall subproteome, please contact Dr. Jeroen De Buck (jdebuck@ucalgary.ca, ).
The successful applicant will have the opportunity to help further develop this growing lab and help steer the lab to new and exciting directions.
Requirements: PhD. Excellent written and spoken English. An excellent attitude, adaptibility, leadership and communication skills. Candidate with a good list of publications will be encouraged to apply for Provincial or National Fellowships within or prior to first year of the training.
The lab is young, dynamic and experimenting with new techniques and novel ways to unravel the many remaining secrets in paratuberculosis pathogenesis. The lab has also a great interest in the potential zoonotic implications with regard to the presence of Map in many Crohn’s patients.
