Formally established in June 2022, the Hong Kong University of Scienceand Technology (Guangzhou)(HKUST(GZ)) is a cooperatively-run highereducation institution between the Chinese mainland and the Hong KongSpecial Administrative Region. HKUST(GZ) has obtained approval from theMinistry of Education (MoE) and become the first legally-independenteducational institution co-established by the Mainland and Hong Kongsince the announcement and implementation of the “Outline DevelopmentPlan for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area” and the“Overall Plan for Deepening Globally Oriented Comprehensive Co-operationamongst Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao in Nansha of Guangzhou”.HKUST(GZ) comprises four Hubs, namely Function Hub, Information Hub,Systems Hub, Society Hub and offers 15 postgraduate degrees.
The Earth and Environmental Systems Research Facility (EESRF) ofHKUST(GZ) is seeking a motivated and experienced talent to manage thefacility. EESRF is designed to perform frontier research in earthsciences, specifically in marine science, atmospheric science and earthsurface processes. Cross-disciplinary studies in physical oceanography,marine biogeochemistry, surface processes in river basins are beingdeveloped, together with atmosphere-ocean coupling climate dynamics,ocean-atmosphere-land interaction, and earth system simulations toimprove community understanding of the earth and environmental systems.
Duties
1. Management of lab assets such as fixtures, equipment, devices, andconsumables during procurement, inventory, archiving and usage statistics;
2. Oversight and evaluate existing safety protocols, such as userorientation, safe practices, waste management and emergency response,provide changes if necessary;
3. Collaboration with every user and provide necessary guidance tomaximize lab performance;
4. Steering a scientific advisor board (e.g. organize regular committeemeetings) to prioritize research directions, personnel hiring and lab upgrades;
5. Supervision of financial matters and response to external auditsrelating to procurement, utility charges, service fee collection andexternal support;
6. Assistance in scientific project application, execution and evaluation;
7. Management of public relations, such as lab web page, advertisementand recruitment;
8. Finalizing annual report.
Qualification Requirements
1. A PhD degree in earth science including but not limited to,oceanography, atmospheric science, earth surface processes;
2. Rich work experience (as mentioned in “Duties”) in universities orresearch institutes;
3. Fluent in both English and Mandarin.
This is a Mainland appointment, and the appointee will be offered acontract by HKUST Mainland entity in accordance with the Mainland laborlaws and regulations. Starting salary will be commensurate withqualifications and experience.
