The University of Southern California (USC) invites applications for a Postdoctoral Associate position in environmental epigenetics. The selected candidate is expected to participate in scientific activities including study design and conduct, genetic and epigenetic laboratory analyses including genotyping and DNA methylation, dissemination of scientific results, and help in development of grant proposals for biologically-based investigations of environmental effects on DNA methylation in association with children’s health outcomes. This is an opportunity to work with world-class investigators in environmental epidemiology, epigenetics, and biostatistics, with a particularly strong reputation in cardio-respiratory diseases. The applicant must have an MD and/or PhD, or near completion, in molecular biology, genetics or closely related field who are seeking opportunities to work in an exciting new area of research at the junction of epigenetics and environmental health epidemiology. The applicant should have experience in techniques for exploring DNA methylation and gene expression, such as Pyrosequencing, Illumina Goldengate, Illumina Infinium, miRNA array and/or SNP array, nextgen sequencing.

Specific responsibilities will include the following:
• Designing scientific experiments to evaluate environmental effects on epigenetic changes
• Primer design and PCR
• Bisulfite conversion of DNA
• Managing, operating, and maintaining the Pyrosequencer machine for measuring DNA methylation
• Preparing samples and collaborating with Epigenome Center staff to conduct genome-wide DNA methylation arrays
• Validation of targets identified through genome-wide screens
• General quality control and assurance for laboratory assays
• Other genetic analyses as needed (i.e. genotyping)
• Laboratory management
• Knowledge of bisulfite sequencing is also desired
