The GKSS Research Centre is located in Geesthacht near Hamburg, Germany, with a further centre in Teltow near Berlin, and is a member of the Helmholtz Association of German Research Centres (HGF). With its approximately 800 employees it undertakes, in collaboration with universities and industry, research and development in the areas of coastal research, materials research, regenerative medicine, and structure research with neutrons and synchrotron radiation.

The Centre for Biomaterial Development of the Institute of Polymer Research of the GKSS in Teltow is seeking a (m/f)

Scientist Postdoc

Code-No. 2009/PB 8

in Polymer Sciences – Combinatorial Synthesis of Polymeric Biomaterials for activities in the Helmholtz-Programme “Regenerative Medicine and Active Biomaterials”. This is initially a 3-years fixed term contract.

You will develop methods for combinatorial and high-throughput polymer synthesis with the help of synthesizing robots, using state of the art techniques, such as RAFT polymerization, for the generation of polymers for biomedical applications. You will be responsible for the bench work and, furthermore, you will actively participate in the publication of the results, preparation of patents, and attracting additional funding.

You have a strong background in both polymer processing and polymer chemistry with a Ph.D. in Engineering, Polymer Sciences, or likewise. You possess practical experience in polymer processing from the melt by extrusion and injection moulding techniques. Knowledge in processing of layered is benefical. Applicants with a strong interest in translational research are especially welcome. You will work in an interdisciplinary team with chemists, material engineers, biologists, pharmacists and scientists of other disciplines in the field of regenerative medicine. You are speaking English fluently and can document your scientific experience with publications.
