A postdoctoral position is immediately available in the laboratory of Dr. Dorin Bogdan Borza at Vanderbilt University (https://medschool.mc.vanderbilt.edu/facultydata/php_files/part_dept/show_part.php?id3=10748). Our research focuses on autoimmune and inherited kidney diseases involving type IV collagen of the glomerular basement membrane (GBM). This position will investigate how immune tolerance toward type IV collagen is normally established in health, broken in autoimmune anti-GBM (Goodpasture) disease, and impaired in alloimmune Alport post-transplant nephritis. The specificity of cellular and humoral adaptive immune responses against tissue-restricted collagen IV chains found in the GBM will be analyzed in antigen-sufficient and antigen-deficient mice and compared to maladaptive immune responses in patients with anti-GBM antibody disease.

Qualifications: Interested candidates must have a pending or recent Ph.D. degree with a background in immunology, renal immunopathology, or basement membrane biochemistry, and a strong record of productivity (as judged from the number and quality of publications). Excellent written English skills are important. The successful candidate will be highly motivated, able to work independently and to handle multiple projects concurrently. Prior experience with rodent models of autoimmunity, inflammation or kidney immunopathology is desirable. Salary will be commensurate with the relevant experience.
