Description

A postdoctoral fellowship in human genetics is available at the University of Alberta, studying the roles of morphogens in developmental and adult disease. The position integrates studies of copy number variation affecting members of the bone morphogenetic protein family with characterization of their functions in human disease. These studies, combining analyses in patients and model organisms, aim to identify molecular processes that may be amenable to therapeutic intervention. The postdoc will acquire a broad range of skills including: array comparative genomic hybridization, bioinformatics, genetic and phenotype analyses of mice and zebrafish, and biochemical assays of gene function.

This position, funded via an operating grant from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, is suitable for individuals with strong backgrounds in molecular biology or genetics. Ideal candidates would have a demonstrated interest and aptitude in an aspect of genetics together with excellent communication and writing skills. Training will be provided in all the specialist areas (trangenesis, morpholino inhibition..).
