A Post Doctoral position of two years is vacant as of 1 October 2012 at the Interdisciplinary Nanoscience Center (iNANO) at Aarhus University, Denmark.
Research area and project description
**
Development of in vivo imaging techniques for early and accurate diagnosis of Alzheimer’s Disease is urgently needed to allow efficient testing of drug candidates in preclinical animal models, and provide earlier diagnosis of patients that may benefit from therapeutic strategies to inhibit neurodegenerative changes. Molecular imaging techniques developed in transgenic murine models of Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s Disease are therefore immediately applicable in basic and industrial research focused on the development of drugs that inhibit the deposition of abnormal proteins in neurodegenerative diseases, and in the development of better diagnostic methods for subsequent translational research. The exploration ofRNA-based aptamers and FeO-containing nanoparticles coupled to blood-brain-barrier penetrating peptides as potential contrast agents in neuroimaging is a promising strategy for delivery of imaging compounds.
The project “Imaging Dementia” is part of a large research program at the iNANO Center aimed at developing novel imaging agents the detection of early stage dementia.
The successful candidate will be involved in intensive interdisciplinary collaborations working on drug development, drug delivery strategies and in vivo animal studies. He/she will focus primarily on developing aptamer based strategies forBBBpenetrations and in vivo imaging studies.
Qualifications and specific competences
We are seeking candidates with a background in molecular biology, cell biology, medicine, nanoscience, neuroscience, engineering or related disciplines. The applicant should have a working knowledge with experience in drug delivery and in vivo imaging studies. Favored skills involve use of chemical synthesis,PCR, in vivo animal handling and imaging techniques (fluorescence microscopy,MRIorPET). A strong background in aptamer selection (SELEX) is desired.
Place of work
The Interdisciplinary Nanoscience Center (iNANO) (www.inano.au.dk) is a major research and education center based at Aarhus University. The Center currently undertakes interdisciplinary research involving scientists from relevant areas in physics, chemistry, molecular biology, biology, engineering, and medicine. iNANO offers a dynamic, interdisciplinary research environment with many industrial, national and international collaborators.
