Postdoctoral position in Molecular Neurobiology / olfactory-mediated behavior
A postdoctoral position is available at the Department of Physiology, University of Saarland in the research project “Molecular and neural dimorphisms that participate in male and female aggression”.
The goal of this project is to characterize the molecular, cellular and endocrine differences in the male and female brain circuits that control the different behavioral outputs of olfactory-mediated aggression. We use live cell calcium imaging to image neurons from in vivo genetic models (gene deficient and genetically labeled transgenic mice) in combination with molecular biology tools and protein biochemistry. An integral part of the project involves animal behavioral assays. Ultimately, the goal is to characterize the molecular and cellular events that modulate gender-specific responses during mammalian innate behaviors such as aggression.
Applicants should hold a Ph.D. in neurosciences, molecular biology or relevant background. Solid knowledge of molecular biology techniques, includingPCR,DNAcloning and immunohistochemistry is required. Experience in live fluorescent imaging, electrophysiology and rodent behavioral training would be a significant advantage. Ability to complete work independently (as demonstrated by publications), and cooperate well with colleagues in a small team, are essential requirements.
Initial salary is set according to the guidelines of the German Science Foundation (DFG) in a short-term employment contract for two years. Review of applications will begin immediately, and the start date will be by mutual agreement. Applications will be accepted until the vacancy is filled.
The program offers high quality innovative research experience, and outstanding well- equipped research facilities in an inspiring research and living environment.
