The US Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) offers a position at The Brain Imaging and Recovery Laboratory in Austin, TX, a newly established program of the Central Texas Veterans Health Care System. The mission of the program is to develop innovative, multi-modal methods to understand and promote recovery after brain injury in patients. Patient populations include those afflicted with traumatic brain injury or stroke.
The laboratory is based at the University of Texas (UT) at Austin Imaging Research Center (IRC) and adjacent facility at the UT Austin J.J. Pickle Research Campus. The IRC is equipped with a 3.0 T MRI research dedicated scanner for structural, functional, and DTI investigations. The center also has EEG capabilities.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to study and interact with others with a variety of other disciplines with common interests in brain plasticity, learning, and rehabilitation. A rich and collaborative scientific environment is shared by investigators at the VA and the University of Texas Institute for Neuroscience in Austin. The successful candidate will develop and complete projects which complement ongoing projects using fMRI and other modalities. The position is open to Ph.D. recipients in cognitive neuroscience, computational neuroscience, neuro-image analysis, and other applicable fields. The candidate should be proficient in both written and spoken English. Applicants should have experience in acquiring, archiving and analyzing functional MRI (fMRI), Electromyogram/ nerve conduction studies (EMG/NCV), Electroencephalograms (EEG), Diffusion Tensor Imaging (DTI), and/or behavioral/psychophysical data. Strong computational skills (e.g. Matlab, scripting software) required. Research experience as demonstrated by publications in peer reviewed journals in related field desirable.
