Institution:
UMDNJ - New Jersey Medical School
Position:
Postdoctoral Fellowship/s in nutrition, metabolism and gastrointestinal physiology
Application Deadline:9/15/2007
Job Description:
Position/s require an expertise in molecular physiology and epithelial biology:
To characterize the response of intestinal nutrient transporters to nutrient signals in the small intestine and to environmental stressors such as ionizing radiation and other disruptors of epithelial function,
To elucidate the signaling mechanisms underlying the response,
To dissect the molecular mechanisms modulating the cross talk between nutrient uptake or stress and transcription or trafficking of nutrient transporters, and
To evaluate radioprotectors capable of preventing and treating the deleterious effect of ionizing radiations on intestinal nutrient absorption.
The broad interest of our laboratory is to increase our understanding of how cell metabolism and intracellular energy sensors, ionizing radiation and free radicals affect expression and activity of nutrient transporters. The techniques currently employed are in vivo intestinal perfusion, in vitro functional assays and cell imaging, microarray, proteomics and pharmacological inhibitors; applicants familiar with techniques that supplement current lab expertise may be preferred. The minimum requirement for this position is a PhD degree. A strong background in metabolic biochemistry, molecular nutrition, or cell biology is also preferred.
The successful candidate/s will join an active, NIH- and NSF-supported laboratory interested in developmental and metabolic regulation of intestinal nutrient transporters, particularly sugar and phosphate carriers. Salary negotiable. Send CV and names of three references by September 15, 2007 to: Dr. Ron Ferraris, Dept. of Pharmacology and Physiology, UMDNJ-New Jersey Medical School, 185 S. Orange Ave., Newark, NJ 07101-1709; fax: 973-9727950 (ronaldoferraris@yahoo.com). Kindly embed CV and reference list in the email, and please send NO attachments.
