Job Description:

Major duties and responsibilities include:
1. Evaluate the short and long term needs for dynamic nuclear polarization at the SNS in terms of neutron scattering, diffraction, and neutron polarization.
2. Establishes a polarized target program for neutron scattering.
3. Conducts independent scientific research related to dynamics nuclear polarization and/or neutron scattering.
4. Ensures compliance with environmental, safety, health, and quality program requirements.
5. Maintains a strong commitment to the implementation and perpetuation of laboratory values and ethics.

Qualifications: Ph.D degree required
Demonstrated expertise in the area of Dynamics Nuclear Polarization. Candidates with a recent Ph.D. in Physics, Chemistry, Biological Sciences, Materials Science, or related fields will be considered. Knowledge of all areas of dynamics nuclear polarization is required. Strong written and oral communication skills and the desire to work in a team environment are required. Experience in scattering techniques is desired. The successful candidate is expected to help lead the effort of establishing a polarized target program for neutron scattering at the SNS. The candidate is expected to conduct independent research related to dynamic nuclear polarization and/or neutron scattering, particularly in areas of achieving high proton/deuteron polarization in samples such as protein crystals, clatherates, etc.

Required disciplines in Physics, Chemistry and/or Life Health and Medical Sciences. Applicants cannot have received the most recent degree more than five years prior to the date of application and must complete all degree requirements before starting their appointment.
